Refundee is a ‘Claims Management Company’, but what does that actually mean?

Claims management companies (CMCs) handle a range of claims on behalf of customers. Things CMCs help with include personal injury claims, employment matters and lots of issues related to financial services – most notably PPI reclaims.

What is known about CMCs?

The claims management industry is notorious for poor business practices, and CMCs have earned a bad reputation in the eyes of many. Everyone’s experienced nuisance calls or texts about a PPI claim or an accident that you’ve usually never had. People who’ve used CMCs are likely to have had a poor experience, with a lack of updates or transparency about their case or extortionate fees – which eventually resulted in the Financial Conduct Authority capping fees.

Refundee is not like other CMCs!

How is Refundee different?

We have a transparent (low!) fee, communicate in a jargon-free way that is easy to understand, and don't do any cold calling or nuisance marketing. We’re trying to help fraud victims in an ethical way!

CMCs used to be regulated by the Ministry of Justice (MOJ), which had very limited power and resources to deal with CMCs effectively. To combat this, CMCs were put under the Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA) remit in April 2019. The FCA has much greater power and has cracked down on the claims management industry.

Unsurprisingly, there’s been a large decline in claims management companies that are able or willing to adjust their business models to operate under the new regulatory regime – a trend which is likely to continue.

At Refundee, we:

  • Only take on cases where we think there is a reasonable chance of success. Even if we don’t take your case on, we’ll give you detailed instructions on how to do it yourself.

  • Believe in transparency. We’re open and upfront that you don’t need to use us to make a claim, and can manage your case yourself. We also explain exactly what arguments we’re putting forward on your behalf.

  • Provide a personalised service. We update you as often and in the level of detail you choose. Want to see every single thing we send or receive from banks or the FOS? That’s fine with us.

  • Keep things simple. Our fee is simple, it’s easy to cancel and we don’t use legalese or jargon.

  • Don’t pressure you to use us. We want people to get back the money that is rightfully theirs. It doesn’t matter whether you use us or not.

  • Only charge a fee if you win. Our fee only becomes payable once you’ve got your money back. And we only ask you to pay after it’s in your account.
